Overview
LinkWorld is a "virtual world" (3D website with avatars and chat function) that allows teachers and students to collaborate at a distance, link learners with experts, and connect students with authors, scientists, artists, mathematicians, etc. - whether living or dead.
Several teachers had their classes participate in exciting events in LinkWorld. For example, several foreign language classes conducted a treasure hunt for vocabulary words. Other students met college recruiters in the virtual world and learned all about getting ready for college. Art students displayed their work for visitors from around the world. During Cinco de Mayo, students interviewed the people who participated in the actual historical events.
Purpose
The purpose of the Innovative LinkWorld Project was to provide an opportunity for educators to use the virtual world technology in their own classrooms or programs - and to share what they learn with others.Research shows that the use of virtual worlds is compelling and motivational for students.
The BorderLink Project was very interested in promoting opportunities for teachers, counselors, and college/career specialists to take advantage of this innovative technology in ways that positively impact student learning and remove barriers to post-secondary opportunities.
