The History of LinkWorld - Borrego

The Borrego area of LinkWorld is built to celebrate the Anza Borrego desert in San Diego County. The name Anza-Borrego is derived from a combination of the name of Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza and the Spanish word "borrego," referring to bighorn sheep.

Borrego is known for its biological diversity, amazing views and excellent hiking areas. Flora of Borrego was modeled from images taken by Carol Kerney such as the one on the left, and from images drawn from UC Berkeley's CalPhoto database (part of UCB's Digital Library Project). Since the designers of LinkWorld were located in the U.K., all of the information needed to be provided in photographs or on the web.

The Borrego area features a small gallery with more images of Anza-Borrego and a meeting room filled with resources where private sessions can take place between counselors, tutors, mentors and students from the Borderlink Project.
