The History of LinkWorld - Ocotillo Desert
The Ocotillo Desert is the home of the main landing point, the "Ground Zero" of Linkworld. This is where all participants first arrive. It is also the location for special events. The Ocotillo Desert is located at 0 North and 0 South in the LinkWorld's coordinate grid. All nine areas in Linkworld feature a building with resources. Since ground zero is a "commons" area, the Building is larger than in other areas and features a gallery show of the beautiful biomes featured in LinkWorld.
The Ocotillo and other native plants in this biome of LinkWorld were modeled from photos taken by Carol Kerney and from online images from UC Berkeley's CalPhoto Online Database. This particular image was taken by Sherry Ballard of the California Academy of Sciences for their voluminous collection of tens of thousands of images from around California.
Students arriving in LinkWorld land in front of the main gallery. The teleports to all other areas is located directly to the East and links to student schedules, the netiquette guidelines for the world called "The Laws of the Land" and the History of Linkworld are available by clicking the signs directly in front of the LinkWorld building.
The teleport center in the Ocotillo Desert/Ground Zero depicts all of the real biomes on which the satellite areas are based. By mousing over the images, the name or its description comes up. Meetings in every location from the Mountains to the Dunes can take place concurrently with full privacy.
A bot in each area logs ongoing chat for monitoring and saving. Students, teachers or Borderlink professionals can meet each other in Ground Zero to head over to other areas or for special events such as orientation sessions, festivals and student fairs.
