The History of LinkWorld - Salton Sea

The Salton Sea area in LinkWorld is modelled after the Salton Sea where California's Largest Lake is located. Over four million birds use it each winter day, and 400 species have been found in this bioregion. While getting beyond geography is the cornerstone of the Borderlink Project, LinkWorld's biomes such as the Salton Sea celebrate the rich diversity of the bioregions in San Diego and Imperial Counties.

The landscape and flora of the Salton Sea was modeled from images taken from the Salton Sea by Carol Kerney, and from images drawn from UC Berkeley's CalPhoto database (part of UCB's Digital Library Project). Since the designers of LinkWorld were located in the U.K., all of the information needed to be provided in photographs or on the web.

The Salton Sea area of LinkWorld includes a small gallery with more images of the Salton Sea and a meeting room filled with resources where private sessions can take place between counselors, tutors, mentors and students from the Borderlink Project.
